I’ve recently discovered a few things (new and old!) that are positively benefitting my own lifestyle and my commitment to greater health and more happiness. So, I thought it would be fun to share.

I always love to hear what’s working well for other people, don’t you? And, learning about something new always makes my day.

If you guys like this post, let me know! This could be a fun new monthly blog post if it’s helpful for you all.

6 Things I’m Loving Right Now (August 2017)

1. The Four Agreements book by Don Miguel Ruiz

I’m a huge believer in the power of personal development books and bettering ourselves in every way, and I’ve read a lot of books. This is the second time I’ve read The Four Agreements, and it’s top on my list of books that will change your life. (If you’d like the others, let me know and I’ll share.)

Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, this book teaches four simple but powerful steps that we all can take in our lives to experience more freedom, true happiness and love.

This book recently helped me with a family situation, and I’m keeping my copy in my bag now so I can reference it and stay true to the agreements I’ve made with myself.

2. Low FODMAP Foods

I’ve shared with you all that I’ve suffered from digestive symptoms for years, particularly gas and bloating after eating certain foods. I have tried different elimination diets and every supplement known to man, but nothing ever really seemed to help keep my GI symptoms away.

Around two months ago, I came across information on FODMAP’s, which are a group of small chain carbohydrates (sugars and fibers) that are commonly malabsorbed in the small intestine, which can pull water into the small intestine, resulting in strong pain, bloating, visible abdominal distension and other related symptoms.

I won’t go too far into the information here, but if you suffer from GI symptoms like these, Low FODMAP’s might be something you’ll want to take a look at. I can honestly say this is the first time I can recall living without the painful gas and bloating I’ve suffered from for so long.

I found most of the preliminary info I was looking for here on RD Kate Scarlata’s blog.

3. Bobo’s Oat Bars and Bites

Since I’ve been eating low FODMAP (see #2 above), I’ve discovered the bars and bites from Bobo’s and I’m in love! I always have one in my bag. They are so delicious and filling and I had one every morning for breakfast a few weeks ago when we were traveling.

The flavors that are low FODMAP are the peanut butter, original, coconut and chocolate chip. Their newest bars are the Stuff’d Bars and I’ve tried the peanut butter, peanut butter chocolate chip and the chocolate almond butter and did fine with all three.

I’m so glad these are in my life! I have found them locally at Whole Foods and Natural Grocers, and they had a couple of flavors at Fresh Market. You can also order them online.

4. Cold Brew Coffee

Now that I’ve discovered that coffee with a splash of almond milk creamer isn’t what was contributing to my digestive woes, I’m really loving my daily coffee! And with it being as hot as it’s been here in Little Rock, lately I’ve favored cold brew coffee.

I’m loving the Organic Black from Chameleon Cold-Brew. I add a splash of Vanilla Almondmilk Creamer from Califia Farms, and I’m in heaven. Mmmmmm…

5. USANA’s HealthPak

My daily multivitamin packs that I simply couldn’t live without. I believe every one of us needs a high quality daily multivitamin to fill in the gaps in our nutrition. (Did you eat 8-9 servings of vegetables and fruits yesterday, and the day before? I can’t say I always do!)

Plus, I exercise daily which increases the nutritional demands on our bodies. In addition, we all experience those little daily stressors like traffic, deadlines, constant emails and group text messages. Those little stressors, believe it or not, affect us on a cellular level. Life is hectic and our cells need support more than ever. I recommend starting with food and ensuring that you’re eating plenty of plant based foods, getting enough sleep (7.5 hours minimum, nightly), and supplementing with the highest quality multivitamin you can get your hands on. For me, that’s USANA’s HealthPak.

These little individual AM and PM packets contain my daily core supplements — my multivitamin, a magnesium/calcium/vitamin D, and an antioxidant booster for powerful cellular support. I credit these packs with giving me tons of energy, helping to keep my immune system on top of things (I can’t remember when I was last sick), and keeping my skin glowing because I nutrient my body from the inside out. If you want more info on the HealthPak, visit www.elizabethfinch.usana.com. Note that you can save 10% off your order just by enrolling as a customer which is free, and you can also save an additional 10% off your products if you choose to utilize our easy and convenient auto order program. I highly recommend it!

6. Hot Yoga

Where do I start with why I love hot yoga? First of all, it’s a great workout — practicing yoga in a heated room is said to increase heart rate, increase metabolism and eliminate toxins, among other things. I love to sweat (it’s one of the ways our body detoxes!), and I love yoga, and I just really love those two things combined.

You can go at your own pace in hot yoga, so beginners can even join in. Just make sure you’re well hydrated before you go, bring an extra bottle of water with you for class and let your teacher know you’re a newbie.

I love the way my mind feels calmer after a hot yoga class, my heart feels more open, my body feels tired from the demanding work but at the same time rejuvenated with new energy. I feel so strong physically, mentally and emotionally afterwards. If you’re looking for a place to try it out, my favorite spot locally is Barefoot Studio at the bottom of Cantrell Hill in Little Rock.

So there you have it! The 6 things that I’m loving right now. Hopefully you will be encouraged to try something new, or this info will help you in some way in your own healthy, happy lifestyle.
